Claude Code Crashes Mid-Tool at ~300s on Large Repos with High Effort
oashaikh · ghdev · 2026-07-30
A developer reported a critical bug in Claude Code (v2.1.212) on GitHub. When running in non-interactive -p mode on large repositories with high or max effort levels, the CLI triggers a graceful shutdown after about 300 seconds, aborting any active tool calls.
Empirical data shows a 42% abort rate for max effort and 40% for high effort on large repos, while medium effort and small repos remain unaffected. Logs indicate terminalreason: abortedtools despite no external interrupts or permission denials, severely undermining automated coding workflows.
