DeepMind Denies Pivot: Science Team Expanding AI for Biology Efforts

Responding to rumors that Google DeepMind is pivoting from hard biological problems to building an "AI scientist," Pushmeet Kohli, lead of the DeepMind Science team, issued a strong denial.
He clarified that the team is not pivoting but expanding. They will continue to tackle the hardest problems in science and biology, such as understanding protein functions, deciphering the genome, and enabling de-novo protein design. Concurrently, they are developing Gemini-powered agents to further accelerate the scientific discovery process.
