Expert Clarifies: Kimi K3 'Self-Iteration' is Just Agent Harness Optimization, Not Model Evolution

Addressing the recent hype around the Cline team enabling Kimi K3 to self-iterate, tech expert @dotey provided a grounded clarification. He pointed out that having a model optimize code is not equivalent to model self-evolution, which would require the model to modify its own weights—something current LLMs cannot do.
He further explained that Cline's approach essentially uses an agent to optimize the testing harness. Because it relies on clear benchmarks for validation, it perfectly hits the agent's sweet spot: iteratively tweaking code to achieve a better score. Therefore, this optimization merely means Cline performs better on its own specific benchmark, rather than representing a fundamental leap in the model's underlying capabilities.
