Blogger dotey shared a major shift in his approach to using Coding Agents this year, transitioning from a hands-on Tech Lead (TL) role to an Engineering Manager (EM) perspective.
- The Catalyst: Around the release of Fable 5, he noticed AI-generated code quality had become highly reliable. He reduced micro-management, focusing instead on global project direction and result verification.
- Optimized Workflow: He now co-creates a technical plan with the Agent, then uses the /goal command to let the Agent autonomously handle coding and automated testing. Bugs are simply described, letting the Agent reproduce, fix, and add test coverage.
- Breaking Tech Stack Limits: Acting as an EM, tech selection is no longer limited by personal familiarity. For instance, despite having no prior Rust experience, he chose it for a cross-platform project, progressing smoothly with AI assistance.
