Nvidia, Meta, and 25 Orgs Urge Washington to Protect Open-Weight AI
anacondainc · x · 2026-07-30
A coalition of 25 companies and organizations, including Nvidia, Microsoft, Meta, and Mistral, recently sent an open letter to Washington arguing that open-weight AI models deserve protection, not restriction.
Anaconda voiced support for the stance, highlighting the commercial tension: building on closed models hands data value back to frontier labs via API calls. For narrow, high-volume enterprise tasks, domain-specific open models offer better accuracy, lower inference costs, and full data ownership.
