Exploring Unconditional Image Generation Over Precise Reconstructions
pixlpa · x · 2026-07-30
The author shared the goal of their image generation project: to create interesting image-making tools rather than simply achieving precise reconstructions of input images. The project even includes experiments geared directly toward unconditional image generation.
Discussing the technical challenges, the author noted they had naively underestimated the difficulty of modeling this representation. Each image consists of 128 or 256 "atoms," with each atom containing 12 parameters and no defined ordering among them, which significantly complicates model training and generation.
