Cryptographer Analyzes Anthropic's New Cryptanalysis Results

Renowned cryptographer Matthew Green wrote a detailed blog post analyzing two new cryptanalysis results produced by Anthropic's unreleased Claude Mythos model.
- HAWK Attack: A new key recovery algorithm against HAWK, a proposed post-quantum signature scheme. However, Green notes that HAWK is not yet standardized, and the attack does not transfer to Falcon, meaning it doesn't break currently deployed systems.
- AES Attack: An improved attack against reduced-round AES.
- Core Insight: Much of cryptanalysis involves algorithms that might theoretically take a year on a billion-dollar cluster. This makes it incredibly tough for experts to measure the actual threat outside of entities like the NSA. Thus, while theoretically significant, these breakthroughs are far from causing immediate real-world cryptographic collapses.
