DeepMind's AI co-scientist has demonstrated remarkable research potential by reproducing a bacterial gene-transfer problem as its top hypothesis in just two days—a breakthrough that originally took a bio lab nearly a decade to crack.
Speaking at RAAIS 2026, DeepMind's Vivek Natarajan shared that the scientist's immediate reaction was to email Google asking if they had hacked his computer. The team is now focused on porting the AlphaGo recipe into medicine to build the world's most experienced doctor.
