Perplexity Open-Sources Numbat: A Cross-Platform Security Suite for AI Agents
perplexity_ai · x · 2026-07-30
Perplexity has open-sourced Numbat, an AI agent security suite designed for client endpoints across macOS, Linux, and Windows.
The announcement highlights that as agent autonomy increases, security risks extend beyond adversarial inputs like prompt injections. Agents directed to pursue high-level goals can select unintended actions, effectively becoming the adversary themselves. Because these behaviors cannot be fully patched at the model layer, robust defense must inhabit the surrounding system.
Key features of Numbat include:
- Cross-Harness Integration: Identifies and directly integrates with common desktop, CLI, IDE, and gateway agents on enterprise endpoints.
- Security Controls: Enforces security rules with live monitoring, local detection, pre-action blocking, and forensic reconstruction from session artifacts.
