Gavin Baker says compute rental prices may keep rising as AI demand stays hot
GavinSBaker · x · 2026-07-30
Gavin Baker says Dwarkesh’s take on compute pricing matches what he’s hearing in Silicon Valley: the market is treating rented compute as getting more expensive, not cheaper.
He argues public markets would likely price AI infrastructure differently if they fully reflected the last six weeks of numbers from OpenAI, Anthropic, Grok/Cursor, and open source.
He also points to a favorable setup for buyers with existing contracted capacity rolling off, or for anyone adding new non-contracted compute, and says any slowdown in capacity additions would only tighten the market further.
