A lab spent roughly 10 years solving a bacterial gene-transfer problem. According to the post, DeepMind’s AI co-scientist reproduced the answer in two days with its top hypothesis.

The talk from Vivnat at Google DeepMind at RAAIS 2026 framed this as an example of porting the AlphaGo playbook into medicine and building “the world’s most experienced doctor.” The scientist involved was so surprised that his first reaction was to email Google and ask whether they had hacked his computer.
