Agentic AI summit says software engineering may shift from writing code to directing it

dawnsongtweets · x · 2026-07-29

The summit’s Future of Software Engineering session argues that AI is removing the historic bottleneck of scarce human coders and reviewers.

The discussion reframes the question from “How can AI help developers write code?” to “How do we safely and effectively transfer responsibility from humans to AI across the software development lifecycle?”

It asks what human engineers should do when implementation is no longer the bottleneck, when code review becomes a constraint rather than a safeguard, and what software engineering means when AI agents design and write the code.

Speakers include Peter Steinberger (creator of OpenClaw, OpenAI), Ryan Lopolopo (principal engineer, agentic Google Cloud Platform; former Dark Factory lead at OpenAI), Michele Catasta (president, Replit), and Alex Graley (director, Comet, Perplexity AI).
