AI bio-risk may narrow the gap between intent and capability

Transformer’s article argues that truly AI-enabled bioattacks have not yet happened, but the risk question is still open because AI could reduce the distance between malicious intent and the specialized expertise needed to build a lethal bioweapon.

It frames the core issue as one of access and capability: historically, successful bioattacks have been rare because few people both want to do them and have the biological know-how and resources. The article says AI may weaken that barrier, and asks what society should worry about — and what should be done about it.
