Engineer Tests Claude for CAD: Turns Messy PPT Specs into DXF Files
burhop · x · 2026-07-29
A CAD engineer shared a remarkable experience using Claude: the AI successfully parsed a 4-page customer PPT spec—complete with handwritten notes and zero scaling—to generate a 3D STEP model and a 1:1 DXF flat pattern.
For a sheet metal part that would normally require a complex bend/unbend workflow in Solidworks, Claude recreated the geometry directly via code using prismatic cuts patterned along a cylindrical surface, effectively completing 90% of the engineer's deliverables.
