A developer used Claude to attack the mutually unbiased bases problem in dimension six, a famous open problem in quantum information.
The AI built a computer-assisted proof machine that successfully ruled out three infinite families of counterexample candidates. Ultimately, Claude concluded that solving the remaining cases would require approximately $1 million worth of GPU compute.
