Google reportedly disbands the original AlphaFold team as it doubles down on Gemini

Google is reported to have effectively shut down the original AlphaFold team as it redirects resources toward Gemini.
According to the report, most of the key team members and original paper authors have been reassigned, and some have already left the company. AlphaFold remains a landmark scientific AI system: it predicts protein structures from amino-acid sequences in minutes, has been used in drug discovery and vaccine work, and underpins a database of more than 200 million predicted structures. But the team behind the project no longer exists in its original form, underscoring how aggressively Google is consolidating around Gemini.
