1,224 frontier AI employees call for tools to deliberately pace AI progress

A new statement titled Pacing the Frontier has been signed by 1,224 employees from frontier AI companies.
The statement argues that AI may soon automate AI research, which could accelerate progress beyond our ability to understand or control the systems being built. It calls for:
- time-buying coordination mechanisms,
- stronger oversight,
- security measures,
- and an international effort, supported by the U.S. government, to develop the technical and governance tools needed to deliberately pace frontier AI development.
The post also notes concern that no independent academic researchers appear among the signatories.
