ChatGPT nears 1 billion weekly users as OpenAI revenue leans harder on enterprise
kimmonismus · x · 2026-07-29
ChatGPT is reportedly nearing 1 billion weekly active users less than four years after launch, but OpenAI is also facing slower growth after the troubled GPT-5 rollout and tougher competition from Gemini and Claude.
- More than 50 million people now pay for ChatGPT, still about 5% of its weekly user base.
- Enterprise customers already account for 40%+ of OpenAI revenue, and the share is expected to reach 50% this year.
- ChatGPT is projected to generate $25 billion in revenue this year, even as OpenAI may burn roughly the same amount in cash.
- The milestone arrived about seven months later than OpenAI had originally targeted.
