OpenAI has released two new transcription models, gpt-transcribe and gpt-live-transcribe, aimed at batch and live audio respectively.
- On a real-world recording benchmark, gpt-transcribe reaches 8.98% word error rate versus 15.21% for whisper-1.
- Pricing drops to $0.0045 per minute, about 25% cheaper than whisper-1’s $0.006.
- The models accept context such as scene descriptions, keyword lists, and expected languages, which improved performance in OpenAI’s internal tests.
- OpenAI says the new models are the recommended starting point for new transcription integrations, while older models remain for special cases.
