- A Carnegie Endowment study, picked up by The Economist, argues that a 100MW AI data centre is worth almost 20% less in Britain than in the US.
- The main reason is grid connection delay: getting connected to power takes much longer in Britain, cutting project value even before operations begin.
- The accompanying chart suggests Britain and Germany sit near the bottom on project value, while the UAE is the most favourable among the selected countries.
- A second chart shows Britain also takes substantially longer from approval to first operation than the US and UAE, reinforcing the bottleneck in power access.
