SK Hynix miss sends AI chip stocks tumbling and drags Korea’s Kospi lower

AI-linked chip stocks sold off sharply after SK Hynix reported record second-quarter profits that still fell short of investor expectations.

South Korea’s Kospi dropped as much as 12.6% intraday and was on course for a record two-day fall, while SK Hynix fell up to 16% and Samsung Electronics traded nearly 10% lower. The Guardian notes that the two chipmakers make up more than half of the Kospi’s market capitalization. The move also rippled through other Asian markets, even as oil prices continued to climb.
