According to the cited Financial Times report, many of the original AlphaFold paper authors have been reassigned over the past year as Google tries to help Gemini close the gap with OpenAI and Anthropic. The implication is a strategic shift inside DeepMind: less emphasis on the Nobel Prize–winning biology system, more focus on the flagship general-purpose model.
