AI makes more sense on greenfield work than on code that already works

A reply to the quant-thread says AI makes sense only when you are starting fresh.
If a system already works, replacing it with an AI that keeps making mistakes is, in his words, unbearable. The implication: AI is much easier to justify on greenfield work than on mature production code.
