FCC adds foreign-made humanoids and quadrupeds to its Covered List

The FCC has added two new device categories to its Covered List, blocking new versions from import or sale in the U.S. when they are foreign-produced.
- The ban covers advanced robotic devices, including humanoids and quadrupeds, as well as power inverters made abroad.
- The commission says the move follows national-security findings from executive-branch agencies that these devices pose unacceptable risks.
- Exemptions can apply when the Department of War or DHS determines a device poses no unacceptable threat.
The post argues this could expose how many U.S. startups are actually built on Chinese OEM humanoids, depending on how “foreign-produced” is interpreted.
