Anthropic says Claude found a faster attack on a reduced AES cipher, not real AES
nptacek · x · 2026-07-29
Anthropic says Claude helped researchers find a much faster attack on a deliberately reduced version of AES.
The key point is that the result applies to a toy or simplified cipher, not real AES. A 200–800× speedup on the reduced version does not translate into practical breaks of standard AES, which would still be astronomically hard to crack.
