Anthropic's Strategic Contradiction: Wants to Lead China Yet Calls for Frontier Slowdown

AI commentator @scaling01 argues that if Anthropic and OpenAI are serious about a government-supported global AI slowdown, they should first reveal where their models are internally to prove they aren't just larping.
He points out a severe internal inconsistency in their current stance. Taking Anthropic as an example: they desperately want to stay ahead of China by 12+ months, yet simultaneously advocate for slowing down frontier model development. This is inherently contradictory because slowing down the frontier gives China the exact opportunity to catch up.
Although many employees have their hearts in the right place, competitive pressures and capitalist incentives will ultimately overrule these idealistic visions.
