1,132 frontier-AI employees urge the U.S. to support global pacing tools
A July 2026 statement signed by 1,132 employees from frontier AI companies argues that leading labs may be close to automating AI research, which could accelerate capability gains faster than society can understand or control.
The signatories say the world currently lacks the technical and governance tools to deliberately pace frontier-wide progress. They ask the U.S. government to back an international effort to build those tools, while also noting that individual companies and countries face strong competitive pressure not to slow down on their own.
