1,132 frontier AI employees urge the U.S. to help slow automated AI development

A new statement titled “Pacing the Frontier” has been signed by 1,132 employees from frontier AI companies.
The petition argues that AI research automation could accelerate capabilities beyond human understanding or control, that competition makes unilateral slowdown hard, and that governments should help create technical and governance tools to deliberately pace frontier AI development.
The Reddit post criticizes the statement for being broad but operationally vague: it does not define what “pace” means, gives no enforcement mechanism, and offers no concrete policy design.
