Expert Slams AI Safety Statement: It's Their Model and Test, Reads Like Blame Shifting

Neil Chilson, former FTC chief technologist, fiercely criticized a recent AI safety statement. He pointed out that since the models and the tests are entirely the companies' own, no one is better positioned to slow down the risks than them.
He argued that the statement reads as blame shifting, virtue signaling, or cowardice. While he respects some of the signatories, the logic currently makes no sense to him. A reply suggested this might be a reaction to last week's hack serving as a wake-up call.
