The author sharply criticizes a recent "responsible AI development" open letter. They point out that very few signatories actually possess firsthand frontier knowledge; most are executives detached from technical realities.

Even the small handful of experts have disproportionate financial or social motivations to perform for the public eye. The rest of the 1,000+ signatories are simply coattail riding. The author concludes that if signing fluffy public letters is the best strategy these minds can muster, the outlook for collective responsible AI development is pretty bearish.
