Miles Brundage backs independent auditing so frontier AI labs can slow down together

Miles Brundage says his move into frontier AI auditing was motivated by a simple governance problem: if safety measures are costly, companies are more likely to adopt them only when they know competitors are doing the same.
He argues independent auditors can provide that assurance by verifying that frontier labs are making similar cautionary tradeoffs on safety and security. The core idea is that paced development is easier to sustain when oversight reduces the fear of being the only one slowing down.
