1,100+ Frontier AI Employees Urge Government to Slow Down AI Development
tomekkorbak · x · 2026-07-29
Over 1,100 employees from frontier AI companies, including John Schulman, have signed the 'Pacing the Frontier' statement. The signatories warn that as AI approaches the automation of AI research, capabilities could accelerate beyond human understanding and control.
While acknowledging the need for time to address risks, they note that competitive pressures prevent unilateral slowdowns by companies or countries. Consequently, they urge the US government to support an international effort to develop technical and governance tools to deliberately pace frontier AI development.
