1,122 Frontier AI Employees Petition US Government to Regulate AI Development Pace

A statement titled Pacing the Frontier has been signed by 1,122 employees of frontier AI companies, including prominent researcher John Schulman. The statement warns that AI is nearing the ability to automate AI research itself, potentially accelerating capability development beyond human control.
The signatories urge the U.S. government to support an international effort to build technical and governance tools designed to deliberately pace the frontier of automated AI development. They argue that coordination mechanisms are essential to give society time to address emerging risks amidst intense competitive pressure.
