1,122 frontier AI employees call on the US government to back pacing tools
A public statement signed by employees from frontier AI companies says AI may soon automate AI research, which could make progress accelerate beyond society’s ability to understand or control it.
The letter argues that industry, government, and society may need ways to buy time to develop security measures and oversight, but no company or country wants to slow down unilaterally. It asks the US government to support an international effort to build the technical and governance tools needed to deliberately pace frontier AI development.
The signatories say this is not a call for a pause, but for coordination mechanisms before frontier progress outruns control.
