The Pacing the Frontier site publishes a July 2026 statement signed by 1,122 employees of frontier AI companies.

The statement says AI may soon help automate AI research, which could rapidly accelerate capability development beyond our ability to understand or control resulting systems. It argues that industry, government, and society may need time to develop security measures and oversight, and asks the U.S. government to support an international effort to create the technical and governance tools needed to deliberately pace frontier automated AI development. The site also lists prominent signatories such as John Schulman, Jared Kaplan, Shengjia Zhao, Mark Chen, Anca Dragan, Wojciech Zaremba, Dawn Song, and Chris Olah.
