OpenAI and Anthropic staff reportedly urge the US to pace AI development
A Reddit post sharing an image of a Bloomberg-style report says employees at leading AI labs have circulated an open letter urging the US government to help deliberately pace AI development if needed.
The quoted text says the document warns there is a “real risk” that AI could advance faster than people can “understand or control,” and references progress in automating AI research. The image also quotes Sam Altman saying AI development may need to be paced so society has time to harden around new capability levels.
This is framed as an AI governance issue rather than a product launch: the key signal is that people inside major labs are publicly pushing for a policy response to frontier model acceleration.
