Anthropic hires an MIT researcher working on pretraining, safety, and data provenance
Shayne Redford says he has moved to San Francisco and joined Anthropic as a Member of Technical Staff.
- He says he will work across pretraining and societal impacts.
- His MIT PhD work covered data, pretraining, post-training, scaling laws, evaluation, and ecosystem safety.
- He highlights prior work on transparency, accountability, safe harbors for independent research, and AI flaw reporting.
- At Anthropic, he expects to keep working on better science, multilinguality, and understanding the real-world impacts of models.
- He also plans to stay involved with academic and public-interest communities, and says the Data Provenance Initiative has new projects coming soon.
