Google Cloud adds spend caps to Gemini API, Agent Platform and Cloud Run

Google Cloud has shipped spend caps for an initial set of services, including Gemini API, Agent Platform, Cloud Run, and Cloud Run functions.

These caps are enforced faster because they use gross estimated costs rather than billing credits. Once a project hits the cap, usage is paused automatically until the cap is manually lifted. Google says the feature is meant to prevent runaway spend and adds alerts at 50%, 80%, and 100% of the budget.

The rollout also covers in-flight requests, which are allowed to complete before new usage is blocked.
