Paper finds AI-written books are flooding Amazon and crowding out non-AI titles

A new paper on AI and copyright studies self-published genre fiction sold on Amazon from 2023 through March 2026 using full-text AI detection from Pangram.
The authors say Amazon is now flooded with books containing substantial AI-written text, and that these titles are earning meaningful money while crowding out sales of non-AI books. The result is framed not just as a copyright question, but as a market-structure problem for self-published fiction.
