Microsoft released MarkItDown, a lightweight open-source Python library that converts documents into Markdown for LLM use.
The tool is positioned as a practical pre-processing layer for AI workflows, and the project notes that it now also offers an MCP server for integration with LLM apps such as Claude Desktop.
