Study: Substantial AI Books Account for 20% of Sample, Nearly a Third of New Bestsellers

The research highlights the proliferation of AI-generated books on Amazon: 1 in 5 books in the sample contained substantial AI text, spanning all genres including romance, thrillers, and sci-fi.
Although a typical AI-written book sells far fewer copies than a non-AI one, their massive volume has boosted their collective sales share from 0% in early 2023 to 20% today. Nearly a third of new entrants on the bestseller ranks now contain AI-generated text.
