A healthcare data company reportedly put AI coding tools on every engineering team, but adoption was messy in practice.
Across four engineers on three teams, each person used the tool differently: one wrote specs first, another pasted whole files into chat, a third had a review checklist nobody enforced, and a fourth built something useful without telling others. The organization had no shared standard, so no one could name the policy. Finance also could not tell which keys were active, what monthly spend looked like, or whether engineers had pasted sensitive data into prompts that week.
