Nature says a CRISPR enzyme can now be programmed to kill cancer cells

The linked Nature news story describes a CRISPR enzyme engineered to recognize a cancer-related messenger RNA and then slice up the cell’s DNA until the cancer cell dies. The mechanism is being presented as a programmable kill switch for tumors carrying hard-to-drug mutations.
Nature says the approach comes from two papers and is still early, but it could open a new path for targeting cancers that have resisted conventional treatments.
