OpenAI’s Codex now splits into Sol, Terra, and Luna, with Luna priced at one-fifth of Sol

OpenAI’s current Codex lineup is described as three tiers: Sol for complex reasoning, coding, and professional work; Terra as a balanced option with performance close to GPT-5.5; and Luna as the fastest, cheapest tier for bounded high-volume tasks.
The post also highlights Codex usage details:
- Plus and higher plans can choose all three tiers.
- Users can separately tune reasoning effort.
- max gives the model more time than xhigh.
- ultra coordinates multiple agents and spends substantially more tokens for stronger parallel work.
The rate card shown in the image makes the pricing split explicit: Terra costs half of Sol’s rate, while Luna costs one-fifth. The image lists input credits per 1M tokens as 125 / 62.5 / 25, cached input as 12.5 / 6.25 / 2.5, and output credits as 750 / 375 / 150 for Sol / Terra / Luna respectively.
