VoiceTypr brings offline speech-to-text to Mac and Windows with local models and an agent API
tomchapin · x · 2026-07-28
VoiceTypr is an offline voice-dictation app for Mac and Windows that aims to replace typing with speech.
- It uses a global hotkey workflow: install, choose a local model, set a shortcut, then speak into any app.
- By default it runs on-device with Whisper or Parakeet, but users can switch to cloud engines such as Soniox, OpenAI, Groq, or Deepgram.
- The product also offers optional AI cleanup using the user’s own OpenAI, Anthropic, or Gemini key, while promising that audio stays local and only text is sent for rewriting.
- A notable extra is an Agent CLI/API, letting scripts or AI agents send audio in and receive text or JSON back.
