Claude Opus 5 infers protein topology from sequence alone, reaching ρ = 0.68

A repost highlights a biomolecular reasoning result from Claude Opus 5.

According to the trace shown in the image, the model inferred an α–β–β–α topology from only the sequence and mutant variants, without seeing alignments or structure. The inferred element boundaries were reportedly within 1–3 residues of the withheld experimental structure, with a correlation of ρ = 0.68.

The example is being used to argue that the model shows surprisingly strong biomolecular intuition from minimal inputs.
