A Claude-built space exploration prototype turns mining, chemistry, and multiplayer into a simulated galaxy
The author shared a month-long game prototype built with Claude Fable and Opus 5 / 4.8. The game is described as a mix of Spore, Mario Galaxy, Factorio, and Minecraft.
What the prototype does
- players start on a planet and can dig, mine voxels, and place blocks
- the galaxy is simulated, and other stars are real targets for travel
- planets have different materials and physical reactions
- resource harvesting, power generation, and terraforming are part of the loop
- the game includes a codex of roughly 30 elements
- materials can change state under pressure, such as methane and diamond transitions
- multiplayer is planned for around 10 players per galaxy, with limited communication and no fixed alliance rules
Design goal
The author says the game is about making the pursuit of knowledge the core gameplay loop. They want players to feel like they are exploring a larger system, discovering how elements interact, and scaling up from a single planet to interplanetary automation.
The project is currently on hold, and the author says they nearly scrapped it, but wanted to show the prototype anyway.
