anselm · x · 2026-07-28
Mapbox launched the Places API in public preview, exposing detailed metadata for 250M+ places worldwide through a single endpoint.
Key capabilities include:
- business attributes, hours, and contact info
- pedestrian entrances and vehicle arrival points
- photos, activity/popularity signals, and geographic context
- stable Place IDs for long-lived experiences
Mapbox says the dataset is built for AI search, recommendations, and local discovery, so apps can understand places with the context users expect.
