Anthropic’s shared Claude chats were found in search results after the company relied on robots.txt alone instead of a page-level noindex control.
- WIRED/Futurism reported that some shared chat pages, including sensitive medical, school, employee, and internal-company material, were discoverable via search.
- Anthropic says shared chats are public only when users create URL-based snapshots, and that discovery happens when those links are posted elsewhere.
- The practical fix is page-level indexing control, not crawler blocking alone; users can also revoke shared chats in Settings > Privacy > Shared chats.
