Claude Code creator Boris Cherny says there is no magic trick—use tasks, tools, and MCP empirically

Boris Cherny says there is no single “magic trick” for using Claude Code well. His advice is to treat the model empirically: give it tasks that are hard enough to expose failure modes, add tools so it can verify its own work, then iterate by fixing problems with better prompting, skills, or an MCP connection that supplies missing context.

He argues people overcomplicate the process because they are applying old-system design habits to a model that should be learned through direct experimentation, not influencer shortcuts.
